HIDDEN DUNES

A Calgary couple with Maritime ties opted to build their dream summer home on their existing PEI waterfront lot. This couple showed a desire to be involved in the architectural process, which helped create their perfect oasis. To avail of existing water and dunes views, we used a linear landscape design.

There is a welcoming simplicity to this home that is thoughtful and elegant in its details. The repetition of the gables on the front and back of the house allows for a visual break to the elongated linear form. Woven cedar corners and the white panel details are subtle and hug the home's exterior.

The house was designed around the hierarchy of the great room: The large repetitive windows with the half ellipse above creates a grandness and fills the space with light. These widows frame the exquisite waterfront landscape, as if each pane was a piece of art. The high vaulted beamed ceiling features tongue and groove, which adds texture within the whites in the space. The kitchen has a simple colour palette of white cabinets and leathered granite slabs. The punch comes from the details of the coffered ceiling, cabinet design, and the homeowners’ carefully chosen artwork and home accents.
